What is Medicare?

If you are 65 years old or older, or a young person with disabilities, or have end-stage renal disease, this federal health insurance program will help you pay for the health care you need. There are different parts of Medicare insurance that cover various things. Here’s some more information:

Part A

Medicare Part A is hospital insurance. It covers inpatient care at a hospital, skilled nursing facility, and hospice.

Part B

Medicare Part B is medical insurance. It covers doctor visits and lab tests. Benefits of Part B include skilled home health care, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and other health care services, as well as some preventive services.

Part C

A private insurance that covers the combinations of A, B, and D in most cases.

Part D

Only insurance that covers your prescription drugs. Part D is required to avoid penalty.
